Detection and Management of Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is an eye condition that can cause vision loss and blindness in people who have diabetes. It affects blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of your eye).
If you have diabetes, it’s important to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. Diabetic retinopathy may not have any symptoms at first — but finding it early can help you take steps to protect your vision.
Diabetic retinopathy is best diagnosed with a comprehensive dilated eye exam. For this exam, drops placed in your eyes widen (dilate) your pupils to allow your doctor a better view inside your eyes. The drops can cause your close vision to blur until they wear off, several hours later. During the exam, your eye doctor will look for abnormalities in the inside and outside parts of your eyes.
The management of this vision threatening disease is multidisciplinary including control of Diabetics and treatment to the eye. We at Precise provide the state of the art facilities for the management of this disease. It includes laser therapy, injection inside the eye and complex retina surgeries.
Detection and management of complex Retinal Disorders
• Age Related Macular Degeneration [AMD]
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that can blur your central vision. It happens when aging causes damage to the macula — the part of the eye that controls sharp, straight-ahead vision.
AMD is a common condition — it’s a leading cause of vision loss for older adults. AMD doesn’t cause complete blindness, but losing your central vision can make it harder to see faces, read, drive, or do close-up work like cooking or fixing things around the house.
AMD happens very slowly in some people and faster in others. If you have early AMD, you may not notice vision loss for a long time. That’s why it’s important to get regular eye exams to find out if you have AMD.
• Choroidal Neovascular Membranes (CNVM)
Choroidal Neovascular Membranes (CNVM) are new, damaging blood vessels that grow beneath the retina. These blood vessels grow in an area called the choroid. They break through the barrier between the choroid and the retina. When they leak or bleed in the retina they cause vision loss.
CNVM are associated with many serious eye diseases, most commonly wet age-related macular degeneration. CNVM are also found in patients with short sight, following trauma and inflammation.
Management includes injection inside the eye to sub retinal surgeries in selected cases. We have the latest imaging modalities and treatment facilities for the same.
